Skylights

Through my reflection on a glass
 Filled with water from your sink
 I see your shadow growing deeper
 With every sip you drink
 And I look through the gaze that you give
 Through the glass pressed on your lips
 Well I know that you are always watching
 Even when nobody's watching
 And the calm that surrounds
 The breath leaving your mouth
 Could build a home inside the city
 Where I'm safe enough to talk
 About when Dad was out at some other lady's house
 Mom was locked up in her room
 Talking to her blue telephone
 Down in the yard, I was sitting in the dark
 When some lights left from the sky
 Offering to take me home, take me home
 Mom helped me up and got me in the house
 And said darling your head is bleeding
 I was no longer a child and I felt quite awake now
 And the chair I'm sitting in, it felt rough against my skin
 I looked down upon these hands, tried to recognize these hands
 On these pictures on the wall or any other people in them
 So mom's off to call a doctor and I'm left in front of the tv
 Alright
 Screen was black and white
 The static was fighting for its life
 Through the buzz I thought I saw face staring back at me
 I called for mom, but she was still on the phone
 So I leaned into the haze and fell for days, and days, and days, and days
 Now wrapped in a calm that does keep me --------
 I can now deduce the truth that I found through solitude
 While I'm down in the yard and I'm sitting in the dark
 There's a light behind your eyes that lets me know I am home
 I am home
