She told him not to worry about a thing
 Did she think through what those words really meant to him
 After a winding road and a long, lonely day
 Did she even know what she was trying to say
 His mama told him he would be safe under her wing
 That was all until he grew up and started to sing
 His own wings felt the need to take a bite of air
 He went outside the wall and learned life ain't fair
 Truth can hurt if you're living a lie

 But the audience isn't singing along
 A year had passed and it happened again
 For some reason she felt the need to find a friend
 She made him mad again well he could not comprehend
 What was the message she was trying to send
