The Way of Things

Come all of you fine people now
 And listen unto me
 I'll tell about sir Gavin knight
 And the deepest mystery
 For the wind was moaning in the night
 When Gavin he rode out
 But in the pale light of morning
 When the day is dawning
 That is just the way of things
 It's of a man of courage bold
 That I have heard men say
 Yes Gavin was a valiant man
 The bravest of his day
 But the forest met him black and dark
 The trees stood tall and stark
 It was at dusk he bid farewell to his mother and his bride he saddled and he bridled and he rode off in the night at dawn his good horse did return but never more came he
 Sir Gavin to his true love said:
 "Now listen unto me!
 I'll ride to do what must be done
 Then married we shall be"
 And home at dawn came his good horse
 But never more came he
 Now Gavin carried bow and sword
 He wore a gallant guise
 But the night was filled with eerie calls
 And watchful hungry eyes
 No matter how his true love yearns
 Sir Gavin won't return
 But in the pale light of morning
 When the day is dawning
 That is just the way of things
