Puccini: Madama Butterfly: E soffitto e pareti - Act One

Lyrics

It is the wedding day of Butterfly and
Pinkerton. On a hill near Nagasaki, a Japanese
house, with terraced garden. In the background,
below, the harbour and the city. Goro is showing
the house to Pinkerton, who is going from one surprise to another.
In the extended duet which ends the first act,
Butterfly and Pinkerton sing of their love alone in
the moonlit garden. Pinkerton's desire grows for his little "toy" wife whom he'll abandon in Act II for
"a real American bride" with tragic consequences.
