The Castle

Lyrics

Under the noon moon off an old country road
Is a dirt worn path that is dappled with sun
At the end of the path is a place they call the castle
Ruinous stone walls of splendour undone
Paths from the river to bridges and hollows
Maiden walk mazes to the old castle keep
Grafitti walled sanctums now filled with garbage
And the ghost of a maiden that forever does weep
And we ran to the castle
And we danced in the sun
 And I walked away dreaming
 Oh we were so young
Hush now a faint cry, hush now and listen
Something is calling us from under the ground
Calling from tree trunks and moss covered marble
Or is it the cry of the quail hunters hound
Remember I kissed you there like knights kiss their ladies
In a wheat covered clearing made by some dear
At the end of a path at the back of the castle
I walked away dreaming while holding you near
And we ran to the castle
And we danced in the sun
 And I walked away dreaming
 Oh we were so young
Maybe there's a shadow that lingers and follows
And feeds off the soul of a man such as me
A leftover midnight that ceases to tarry
And falls upon the living like October leaves
As we made our way back down the old country road
The noon moon was placing some stars in the sky
And just as I turned on my Volkswagon headlights
A silver white stallion went galloping by
And we ran to the castle
And we danced in the sun
 And I walked away dreaming
 Oh we were so young
