Lyrics

Real quick, I wanna do a little song we wrote
Uh, at our kitchen table with my daughter
My son, and Lucy, our two-year-old, my daughter Emma, six
And my son Samuel is eight, and Lucy's two
And I had them at home by myself for a night
And Rachel had planned this whole day for me
Written all these notes and everything
And really didn't think that I could manage, I'm serious!
And I was kind of offended by that
And so I really wanted to prove that I can do this
And then right before she leaves, you know, she's writing notes and I said
"Honey, get out of here, I can do this, this is not a problem"
And then uh, and then she said, uh, said, "Alright, I'm outta here"
And then she leaves, and then she calls me on her cellphone a few minutes later
And says, "Oh by the way, don't forget to feed Lucy"
I mean, Lucy's two, like I'd forget to feed her, you know
Anyway, so I- but I, I, "In case you don't know what to feed her
I cut up all the food, it's in the, it's in the refrigerator in the kitchen"
And so I went in there and there was, strawberries and cheese and peas on the plate
And uh, so I started trying to feed Lucy, and
The way I do it is just if she'll keep her mouth open
I'll put in as much in as I can, you know
So I just, stuff it in there
And then a few minutes into it, she started spitting the food everywhere
And then the kids starting laughing, and then they thought it was funny
But I had that kind of, like, I need to prove that this is gonna be okay
And having food all over the ceiling won't be the best way to prove this
And so I'm saying, "No-no-no! Guys, guys, guys"
And then of course the other kids think it's funny
So they started spitting food and then the whole thing gets to be a mess
And then you're, you feel like you're needing to maybe discipline
And right at that moment, Emma says, "Dad!" As if to say, "Don't fight it!"
Emma just says, "Dad! Let's write a song about this"
I said, "Great idea, Emma!" And I grabbed my guitar and I just sang this
I'm eating my strawberries and my cheese
I'm eating my whole plate, even my peas
 I'm happy
 I'm so happy
I'm stuffing that oatmeal down my throat
I'm drinking my milk from the cows and goats
 I'm happy, makin' everybody happy
 (And then we all sing)
Happy, I'm so happy (everybody, sing it)
 Happy, I'm so happy
 Happy, I'm so happy
 Happy, I'm so happy
 And then we whistle
